Here is why -
Fighting erupted between Nuer youths and KARO youth of the Kuku tribe, which is one of the Bari-speaking communities. The fighting took place in Morobi, Obongi District after Nuer youths from Dama Camp traveled to the Kuku area and stole maize and other goods. The authorities apprehended the perpetrators and issued fines immediately. However, Nuer youths were unhappy with the development, mobilized themselves, and began burning down Kuku houses. Kuku youths immediately retaliated in burning down Nuer houses in Dama, which resulted in the death of a Nuer leader in the camp. The fighting is continuing as the Nuer are trying to mobilize themselves to take more revenge on the Kuku tribe. Ugandan police forces from the nearby police station have been deployed into the area but the situation still remains fragile.
